Specialties
User interface research, design, and development, including planning research approach, writing scenarios and use cases, designing mockups and wireframes, coding user interface elements, evaluating usability, analyzing data, and authoring reports and publications.
Interests
My primary research interests are human computer interaction, social computing, and psychology.
Work Experience
For the past 13 years, I've been a cognitive and computer science at the Center for Technology in Learning at SRI International. I work with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and test innovative learning technology across several projects. I've been a principle investigator on 8 grants and an author on over 40 publications on various topics including online community, collaborative technology, learning, and reasoning.
In graduate school I was a teaching assistant for courses in cognitive science and programming, and interned or consulted at Apple, IBM, and Xerox PARC, working in the areas of interface design, artificial intelligence, and user studies.
Education
I have a Ph.D. in cognition and learning and an M.S. in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley. My dissertation work focused on modeling and aiding scientific reasoning through an integration of theory-based cognitive simulations, experimental studies, and instructional curricula. I have a B.S. from the University of Nebraska in mathematics and computer science (double major).
Fun
My hobbies and other interests include a cappella singing, social dancing, personal finance, long-term thinking (on global warming, evolution, etc.) and conservation.
